What makes teams hesitate to leave Claude, and how we handle it
Teams that chose Claude usually chose it on purpose. Moving should keep what they liked about it, not throw it away.
"Our team likes how Claude writes."
Anthropic's models are available inside Microsoft Copilot, and on by default for most commercial tenants. We rebuild each Project so the Copilot agent keeps the tone, structure and rules your team relies on, and compare both side by side on real prompts before anyone switches.
"Our Projects hold a lot of context."
Project instructions become agent instructions, and project knowledge moves into a SharePoint library the agent reads, with the same people allowed to see it.
"Claude remembers how we work."
Each person has Claude write out what it remembers about their work. In a short guided session we turn the useful parts into Copilot custom instructions.
"We don't want to lose our history."
Your Claude Primary Owner can export the organization's data. We archive the conversations in SharePoint and collect project files from their owners.
Why companies are moving from Claude to Copilot
Stop paying for two AI tools
Claude Team or Enterprise seats often sit on top of Microsoft 365, which includes Copilot Chat at no extra cost. We show what you would keep, what you would cut, and what it costs.
Close the data gaps
Files uploaded to a separate AI tool live outside your Microsoft 365 controls. Copilot works inside them and only shows people data they already have permission to see.
Bring shadow AI back inside
Personal Claude accounts used for work sit outside your admin controls and retention policies. A company-managed tool brings that work back under them.
Draft where the document lives
Copilot works inside Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook and Teams, so writing and analysis happen next to the files and threads they are about.
Claude vs Copilot for business
Claude is a strong writing and reasoning assistant. The question for most companies is where the work happens and who controls the data.
| Topic | Claude Team and Enterprise | Microsoft Copilot (formerly Microsoft 365 Copilot) |
|---|---|---|
| Where people use it | Claude's own web, desktop and mobile apps | Inside Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook and Teams, plus Copilot Chat |
| Company data it can use | Files added to Projects and the apps you connect | Your Microsoft 365 mail, files and meetings, within each person's existing permissions |
| Custom assistants | Claude Projects | Copilot agents, built in Agent Builder or Copilot Studio |
| Admin and data export | Claude organization settings; data export by the Primary Owner | Microsoft 365 admin center and Microsoft Purview |
| Cost | A separate subscription per seat | Copilot Chat included with Microsoft 365 business plans; the full Microsoft Copilot license is an add-on |
Not every team should move everything. The assessment shows what to move, what to retire, and what, if anything, to keep.
What moves, and where it lands
Claude can write out its memory and export your data, and Copilot has no import button. The migration is the work in between.
| What you have in Claude | Where it lands in Microsoft 365 | Who does the work |
|---|---|---|
| Claude Projects | Copilot agents, built in Agent Builder or Copilot Studio | We rebuild and test them |
| Project knowledge files | A SharePoint or OneDrive library, with the right permissions | We move and secure them |
| Connectors and integrations | Copilot Studio connectors and MCP servers | We rebuild and test them |
| Saved prompts | A shared prompt library in Copilot Prompt Gallery | We rewrite them for Copilot |
| Memory | Copilot custom instructions | Each person, in a guided session with us |
| Chat history | Archived in SharePoint, searchable | We archive the export your Primary Owner downloads |
Six steps, nothing lost
Each step has an owner and a sign-off, so nothing quietly breaks along the way.
- AssessWe inventory who uses what: assistants, prompts, files, integrations and spend.
- MapEvery piece gets a home in Microsoft 365, or a reason to retire it.
- RebuildAssistants, connectors and prompt libraries are rebuilt and tested before anyone switches.
- PilotA small group works in the new tool first. We fix what they flag.
- TrainShort sessions built around your team's real tasks, the old way next to the new way.
- Switch overEveryone moves, chat history is archived, and old licenses are retired.
Questions we hear most
Can we export our Claude data?
On Claude Team and Enterprise, the Primary Owner can export the organization's data from Organization settings, under Data and privacy. It includes conversations and user data, and the download link expires after 24 hours. Members can export their own chats only if an owner allows it. See Anthropic's export guide.
What happens to our Claude Projects?
Each Project becomes a Copilot agent. Its instructions are rewritten for Copilot, and its knowledge files move to a SharePoint library the agent uses. Anthropic doesn't document whether the organization export includes Project files, so we collect the originals from their owners.
Can we keep what Claude remembers about us?
Yes, by hand. Copilot can't import memory from another AI tool, so each person asks Claude to write out what it remembers, and we turn the useful parts into Copilot custom instructions in a guided session.
Can we still use Claude's models in Copilot?
In most cases, yes. Microsoft offers Anthropic's models inside Microsoft Copilot, including Researcher, Copilot Studio and Agent Mode in Excel. They are on by default for most commercial tenants; in the EU, EFTA and UK an admin has to opt in, and they are not available in government clouds. The setting is "AI providers operating as Microsoft subprocessors" in the Microsoft 365 admin center.
Will Copilot write as well as Claude for our team?
We test it on your work before anyone switches. In the pilot we run your team's real prompts through the rebuilt agents, compare the results, and adjust the instructions.
Does everyone need a paid Copilot license?
No. Microsoft Copilot Chat comes with Microsoft 365 business subscriptions at no extra cost, and simple agents run on it for free. The paid Microsoft Copilot license adds Copilot across Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook and Teams with your company data. We map who needs which.
How long does a move from Claude take?
It depends on the number of Projects, people and connectors, and the timeline comes out of the assessment. Most of the work is rebuilding the Projects your team depends on most, which we do first.
